Thanks to its eight microphone capsules and digital signal processing, it offers three selectable modes of direction: superdirectional, unidirectional and omnidirectional. In superdirectional mode, the microphone strongly favours sounds from the front in order to improve the intelligibility of dialogues and limit sounds from the sides. Other modes make it possible to quickly adapt the capture to an interview, an atmosphere or a situation requiring a wider sound area. On Sony devices compatible with the digital audio interface of the Multi Interface claw, the signal is transmitted directly to the camera in digital format, without additional audio cable. The microphone is also powered by the camera and therefore does not require any independent battery.
